The Situation

Just had a storm?
Let's see what's covered.

Colorado hail and wind do real damage. Insurance often covers a full roof replacement, but only if you handle the claim right. We do that part for you.

What to do first.

  1. Don't climb on your roof. It's not safe and it's not necessary. We'll come do it.
  2. Document everything visible from the ground. Walk the perimeter, take photos of any dents, missing shingles, debris, gutters knocked loose, exterior siding, AC units, and outdoor furniture.
  3. Don't call insurance yet. Call us first. We'll do a 15-minute phone consult and tell you whether it's worth filing.
  4. Don't wait. Note the date the storm hit and call right away. Filing windows vary by insurer — some are much shorter than you'd think — and the longer you wait, the easier it is for them to call the damage "normal wear and tear" instead of storm damage.

Why calling right away matters.

Two reasons to move fast. First, once a storm opens up your roof, any further damage that happens because it sat unaddressed can be treated as negligence — and that part may not be covered. Second, insurers are notorious for arguing that an older claim is just the roof aging out of its lifespan, not storm damage. Calling early protects the claim on both fronts.

The signs of real hail damage.

Most hail damage isn't obvious from the ground. The shingles can look fine while the granules underneath are cracked and the underlayment is compromised. What we look for during the on-site:

  • Bruising on shingles (dark spots where granules have been knocked off)
  • Cracked or split shingle mats
  • Damage to the soft metal: vents, flashing, gutters, downspouts
  • Dents on AC condenser fins
  • Damaged or punctured pipe boots
  • Granule loss in gutters (handfuls of black grit means trouble)

The insurance side.

Most Colorado homeowners' policies cover storm-damaged roofs after deductible. The catch is the claim has to be filed right, the adjuster has to be walked through what they're seeing, and the scope they write has to be negotiated if it's missing things.

With your permission, Janelle handles the adjuster conversation directly. She knows what insurance is looking for, what they tend to "miss," and how to make sure you get what you're entitled to. Full insurance process explained here.

What happens once it's approved.

Most Thornton roofs are replaced in a single day. We bring debris netting to protect your landscaping, Janelle is on-site on the day of your job, and we run a magnetic nail sweep over your lawn and driveway before we leave.

And we're local. We were here before the storm, and we'll be here long after — not an out-of-state crew chasing hail and gone by spring.

Had a storm and never filed a claim? Call us. We'll tell you in 15 minutes whether it's worth pursuing — but don't sit on it.
